LipoScience Vantera NMR
A driving force behind Labcorp's $85MM purchase of LipoScience in 2014.

Role
UX, UI, graphics and front-end development
Scope
Analyzer touchscreen plus mobile monitoring app
Platform
Flash on embedded .NET; AIR mobile
Outcome
$85MM acquisition, 2014 (employer reported)
The problem
Weeks of training just to run the machine.
On earlier generations, a lab tech needed several weeks of training to calibrate, run tests and service the analyzer.
My role
UX, UI and front end on the embedded layer.
I worked with the engineering team to design the UX and build the UI, graphics and development that sit on top of the embedded application layer.
What I did
Run health on one screen.
The main screen monitors test results so the operator knows the device is running properly and the results are reliable.

Reagents as they sit.
Each bottle shows its level, barcode ID and carousel position. I modeled and rendered them in 3ds Max.

Alerts that protect the device.
The alert system can block the operator from continuing when continuing would harm the device.

Every analyzer in your pocket.
A lab manager checks the status of any NMR in the lab and gets alerts (AIR for iOS and Android).

The device itself.
My UI ran on its touchscreen monitor and keyboard.

The outcome
$85MM
Labcorp's 2014 purchase of LipoScience, which the device helped drive (employer reported).
